Abstract
In June of 1993 a project initiative was begun at British Petroleum in Anchorage, Alaska. The goal was to build an electronic depository capable of supporting the document retrieval needs of the company’s legal department there, and potentially for the entire corporation. Corporate litigation is information intensive, with storage requirements ranging in the hundreds of thousands of documents and millions of pages for a single lawsuit.
