Abstract
In this chapter, we introduce the Advanced Region-Based Image Retrieval System (ARBIRS) that we have recently developed. We first describe the goal set for ARBIRS, and discuss the optimal feature space to achieve the goal. Then we explain the challenges accompanied by the feature space selection, and elaborate on the approaches taken to meet the challenges. Finally we outline the framework of, and explain the major components of the system.
