Abstract

Reflectometry exploits the phase shift of electromagnetic waves as they propagate through the plasma. The waves reflect at the cutoff layer defined by the region where the refractive index becomes zero. Reflectometry profile measurements are based on measuring the phase shift or group delay to this layer as a function of frequency. In a simple 1-D picture, the density profile is then recovered by an inversion from the (group delay, frequency) space to the (cutoff frequency, radius) space. In O-mode this involves a simple Abel inversion procedure.
