Abstract

Portable compressed gas containers are subject to strict regulation throughout North America. In the United States, the Hazardous Materials Regulations of the Department of Transportation (DOT) apply. These are found in Title 49 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) [1]. In Canada, the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations [2] require the application of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards B339, Cylinders, Spheres, and Tubes for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and CAN/CSA B340, Selection and Use of Cylinders, Spheres, Tubes and Other Containers for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Class 2 [3, 4].
