In this chapter we set forth the major issues and components to be considered when surveying technologies for distributed and content-based information networks. First, a illustrative application scenario is discussed that demonstrates the CBAM need. Then, we provide an overview of the information access paradigm well-suited to these environments; then the components comprising this environment are identified.
