Abstract
As the name implies, electrogastrography (EGG) is the study of the electrical activity of the stomach. The first EGG’s were performed in the early 1920’s by Walter Alvarez (1). During the time of Alvarez, the study of gastric electrical activity was crude and cumbersome making the analysis as well as the utility of data difficult. It was therefore not until the 1960’s that the first abnormalities seen on EGG were described. Telander, et al. (2) described one of the first groups to attribute gastric distension in humans to faster than normal gastric rhythm, or tachygastria.
