Common Poster Design Blunders

  • Peter J. Gosling

Abstract

This chapter is included to encourage you to not only attend poster sessions and view as many displays as possible but also to develop a critical eye. In the future, after absorbing the scientific content of posters, try to reserve a minute or two to access the quality of the poster design. In the previous chapters we considered various aspects of poster design, production, and presentation. Bear these in mind as you view poster displays, and decide for yourself whether a particular style or combination of different design elements works. Is the scientific message clearly discernible? Is the display attractive and informative? Was it easily found in the poster session and did it have “pulling power”? Finally, above all, could you improve it or do better?
