(e,3e) Double Ionization: Comparative Results for He, Ne and Ar
Main objective of the (e,3e) studies is the investigation of the double ionization (DI) process under electron impact, using triple coincidence techniques to measure fully differential cross sections. In these kinematically complete experiments the energies and emission angles, and hence the momenta of all participating particles are detected in the final state. This yields the most detailed insight into the fundamentals of the DI process, with a special emphasis being placed on understanding which particular mechanism is responsible for the double ejection of two electrons from the target into the continuum.
