Abstract

We show that the experimentally observed binomial multiplicity distributions for intermediate mass fragments can be explained as mainly due to the effects of the finite size of the emitting system. The dependence of the binomial parameters p and m on the total transverse energy, as well as the scaling and reducibility properties, can be explained by examining the acceptance of the detector used in the fragmentation experiments that found these properties.
