Abstract

In this very brief review of heavy-electron phenomena in metals and alloys we have only scratched the surface of a large body of available experimental and theoretical results. The current interest in these types of problems is distributed over the aspects that have been discussed above and some others not mentioned here. However, the issue concerning the validity of the Fermi-liquid model as the only description of the ground state of metals seems to be the most attractive item in the agenda. There is growing experimental and theoretical evidence that other models also have to be considered for describing the low temperature behaviour of new and exotic metals.
