Abstract

Contamination of the sea originates from widely different sources. Atmospheric and riverborne transport add to point source discharges. Complex industrial effluents add to municipal discharges containing chemical products used in households. Storm water is contaminated from road traffic, domestic use of pesticides, etc. The worldwide transport and use of petroleum inevitably leads to discharges and accidental spills contaminating the sea.
