Design for Reliability, Maintainability and Supportability

One of the important tasks of the design process is to translate the overall functional requirements for a new system into its physical requirements in relation to performance, power consumption, cost, reliability, maintainability, supportability etc. Reliability, maintainability and supportability should be designed into the product. The Design Phase is particularly important for any product, as the decisions made during this stage will have a major influence on the operational effectiveness of the system throughout its life. In this chapter, we would like to some of the tools and techniques that can be used at the design stage to improve the RMS characteristics.
