Periodic ΣΔ Bit Stream Theory
The goal of this chapter is to develop a solid theoretical foundation on which to understand the method, principles and limitations of representing an aperiodic ΣΔ modulated signal with a short, periodic, bit stream. We will begin by introducing some mathematical principles of periodic signals and Fourier analysis using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Next, we shall review the concept of ΣΔ modulation, as this modulation technique is used to encode multi-bit periodic signals into a single-bit aperiodic data stream. Finally, we shall outline the steps that are to be taken to best represent the aperiodic bit stream by a short, periodic, bit stream.
