Abstract
Discourse analysis can take understanding about information systems planning and development further than is possible with current approaches. The two added value items in this paper are those of ‘talk-as-action’ and social constructionism. Both are used to elaborate a structurationist view that values and ideas (those of the actor or agent) which appear in discourse early on in the case study become accepted as rules or as roles (the organizational structure) and which become resources for individuals (the actor or agent again) to use by the end of the case study.
