Abstract

The Kπ = 2+ rotational bands found at low energy in well-deformed nuclei are generally interpreted as arising from the excitation of a quadrupole collective single-phonon γ vibration. The presently known evidence for the expected Kπ=0+ and Kπ=4+ double-phonon γ vibrational states are discussed.
