Abstract

The successful execution of a material requirements plan (MRP) is dependent on a complete understanding of the required capacity for the plan. In the early days of MRP, the practitioner was happy to have the knowledge of valid component requirements and paid too little attention to the ability to supply those requirements. Capacity analysis is initiated at the strategic planning level and may conclude at the work center operation level. Figure 7-1 illustrates the hierarchy of capacity planning.
