Abstract

The design and fabrication of structural elements must be done with care and understanding to assure the desired quality. This is true of elements made of concrete members having prestressed reinforcement, whether precast or castin-place, just as it is for members made with nonprestressed reinforcement or other materials. Most problems that occur during construction are avoidable, and most have been experienced by other individuals. The purpose of this chapter is to describe some of the problems experienced in the fabrication of prestressed-concrete members and, where possible, to provide methods that can be used to avoid them.
