The antihypertensive effect of calcium antagonists was established over 20 years ago. The antihypertensive mechanism is explained primarily by the fact that calcium is prevented from entering the vascular muscle cells (1, 2). Today, this blocking is not considered to be a simple obstruction of the channels; it is assumed that the Ca2+ channels are stabilized by Ca antagonists so that the influx of Ca into the cells is inhibited.
