Biochemistry of Oxidant Injury
Chapter
Abstract
Neutrophils attracted to an area of inflammation are stimulated to produce O2-, the degradation products of which (H2O2, -OH, HOCI, etc.) are potent bactericidal as well as cytotoxic agents. In order to determine the pathways of oxidative injury, target cells were exposed to various oxidizing agents. This report will only be concerned with the effect of H2O2. In order to simplify the determination of kinetics a single bolus of reagent H2O2 was used.
