Abstract
Chemical oxidative polymerization of thiophenes substituted with optically active groups at the 3-position yields conducting polymers with interesting optical and electrochemical properties. Carbon-13 NMR, IR and UV-visible spectral information on these materials are presented, together with electrochemical and molecular weight data. Properties of polymers derived from enantiomerically pure monomers are compared with those obtained from racemic monomer mixtures and with poly (3-hexylthiophene).
