Versatile Computer Program for Solenoid Design and Analysis
Solenoid magnets have the simplest possible winding configuration and are used in various areas like (1). Magnetic Resonance Imaging (2). High Gradient Magnetic Separation (3). Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDS) etc. This paper describes SOLY, a highly interactive PC based computer program for Design and Field Analysis of Solenoid magnets, developed at MHD Center. The features of the program and also the principles and computation methodology employed are described. The analytical expressions have been derived exploiting the axi-symmetry of solenoid magnets. The computations are performed using simple numerical integration methods without the necessity to use Finite Element methods.
