Abstract
A study is presented on partial discharges from conducting particles in compressed SF6 insulation under AC stress. A reference experiment was carried out with various diagnostic techniques including a phase resolved partial discharge analyzer. An interpretation of the measurements in terms of discharge mechanisms is given, based on which approximate scaling laws are derived which relate the PD data to the experimental parameters and to the particle characteristics.
