Worldwide environmental contrasts — Japan

  • Chapter

Abstract

In a similar way to other industrialized nations, the first energy crisis of 1975 prompted an urgent survey in Japan concerning the impact that packaging materials have on our society. The purpose of the survey, in those days, was to find the most effective use of natural resources. The second energy crisis invited the tremendous increase in energy prices, but it was eventually averted without permanently crippling the nation’s economy.
