Centrifugal Instabilities in Rotating Frame about Flow Axis
Flows with curved streamlines play an important role in everyday life and industrial systems such as rotating machines and chemical reactors. They also represent a prototype of investigation of transition to chaos in hydrodynamic systems. Under certain circumstances, flows with curved streamlines lose their stability and longitudinal rolls are generated as a result of centrifugal instability. The simplest flow systems with curved streamlines are the Taylor-Couette flow between two coaxial independently rotating cylinders and the curved Poiseuille channel flow .
