Current Overview on the Approach of Clinical Trials at Petten

  • Raymond L. Moss

Abstract

In August 1990, the main components of the filtered (epithermal) neutron beam were installed in the beam tube HBll of the High Flux Reactor (HFR) at Petten1. Thereafter followed a prolonged 9 months period of testing and commissioning before it was finally possible in June this year to open the beam for the first time at full reactor power. The first measurements to characterise the neutron beam were made, followed shortly by some initial cell culture irradiation experiments, and the start of the in vivo healthy tissue tolerance studies using the canine brain.
