Abstract
Widespread appreciation of the importance of T cell adhesion has emerged only in the last 5-10 years. But now the topic is being widely discussed and many aspects carefully reviewed.1-8 This review briefly outlines one important emerging concept, namely that adhesion is not a simple unitary event but rather a co-ordinated sequence of events. This concept is emerging concurrently from studies in a variety of model systems.3,9-12 We illustrate how this concept has emerged from ours and others studies of T cells. Many aspects of T cell adhesion and biology are touched on which are beyond the scope of this brief presentation; the citations therefore emphasize reviews as a starting point for further reading.
