Description of Elastic Discontinuities with the Scanning Acoustic Microscope

Abstract

A structure related optical transfer function of an acoustic reflection scanning microscope (SAM) is experimentally determined by an ultrathin wire of metal and straight edges of different metal materials. Several types of elastic discontinuities of bulk specimen are analysed by the characteristic distribution of their amplitudes and phases in the Fourier domain.
