Abstract

A consistent description using the Skyrme SIII force, of both the individual and collective spectroscopic properties at low excitation energy of the 178Hf nucleus, is presented. Along with rotational and vibrational states, the Kπ=16+ isomeric state is very well reproduced. A discussion of the crucial importance of pairing correlations is made.
