Abstract

Two of the fundamental powder measurements used to control the properties of slips for any method of wet processing are specific surface area (SSA) and particle size distribution (PSD) of each body component and of the whole body. These measurements are often used to vary body compositions when individual component powder properties change. They are useful measurements but have been found to be sometimes inadequate when each is used alone. However, when these two measurements are combined, excellent control of slurry properties may be achieved. Other variables must also be controlled to effect Predictive Process Control, but the combination of these two measurements is fundamental to all of them.
