Abstract

The trenchless technology project can be divided into the following tasks: (1) selection of trenchless equipment; (2) planning and design of project; (3) job implementation. The operator or contractor will have to evaluate the economic, technical, and often legal aspects of each of these tasks. In many projects, three parties will be involved: the client, the contractor, and the design firm. The design firm may be appointed by the client before initiation of the project or hired as a subcontractor by the contractor. Each party should be sure that it understands its responsibilities. For a small project, only a purchase order may be issued, whereas larger projects typically involve a contract that may detail the time to complete the work, specifications for the project, costs and legal ramifications.
