Novel Azo Initiators for Polyolefin Modification and Grafting

  • Hai-Qi Xie

Modification of relatively inexpensive and widely available polyolefins through free radical induced melt grafting is now recognized as a viable method for developing new polymeric materials without major capital investment. Such modified polymers generally contain polar and/or reactive functional groups which impart increased usefulness in various applications such as reactive compatibilization of immiscible polymer blends and tie layer adhesion in multilayer polymer products. New polymer blends with improved properties can be obtained through reactive blending using polymers functionalized with complementary coreactive groups.1
