Abstract
In 1988, Chiang Mai University Hospital alone reported more than 500 cases with cervical cancer[1]. Most of these patients were in an advanced stage. The result of conventional irradiation in Thailand, using external beams (X or gamma rays) and implants of 226Ra, 137Cs in advanced cervical cancer, is rather poor with the 3 year survival rate in stage IIIB ranging from 25 to 34 percent [2,3]. Carcinoma of the cervix is now believed to be the number one female cancer in Thailand.
