Abstract
Two questions regarding nomenclature and terminology were raised at the International Symposium on Retinal Degeneration in Sardinia. First, what are the correct symbols for identifying the cloned and/or mapped forms of inherited retinal degeneration, and, second, what are the most appropriate terms for referring to mutations and genetic variation? This commentary addresses these questions.
