Abstract
Since the initial observation of superdeformed rotational bands in A≈190 nuclei in 1989, there has been an explosion of data in the Hg-TI-Pb isotopes with as many as 35 superdeformed (SD) rotational bands reported in 15 isotopes in this region.1–11 The current status is summarized in Fig. 1, which also indicates the number of bands seen in each isotope.
