Abstract
Site E-86-2 lies on the western shore of a fossil lake in Section BT-B of the Bir Tarfawi depression. Excavation of the site began in 1986 and continued in 1987. The site was first observed as a dense surface scatter of stone artifacts, extending over an area measuring ca. 80 m north-south and 10 m east-west. There were many similar concentrations in the vicinity, separated by sheets of recent sand. They seem to mark fossil beaches of the extinct lake (Fig. 27.1: F).
