Abstract
Twenty-four years have been added to the Earth’s history since the publication of the text Organic Geochemistry: Methods and Results, comprising chapters written by those then actively engaged in the subject and edited by myself and Sister Mary Murphy (Springer-Verlag, New York, 1969). The editors of the present volume, which has a similar format, kindly invited me to comment on the current state of the subject. How have things changed—is there anything left to do?! Simply put, the answers are “enormously” and “yes, indeed.”
