Scattering of Short EM-Pulses by Simple and Complex Targets Using Impulse Radar

  • Chapter
Ultra-Wideband, Short-Pulse Electromagnetics

Abstract

The determination of radar cross-sections (RCSs) of scatterers of simple geometrical shapes is a well-studied problem area.1,5 Traditionally, the analytical treatment has used continuous wave (CW) incidences on the targets, while in practice the interrogating waveforms are pulses, often of short duration, and the targets have complex shape. As we demonstrated earlier4,5 a Fourier transform technique conveniently extends the steady-state cases to the transient situations when the incident waveform is a single pulse of arbitrary shape and duration.
