Abstract

In recent years, there has been a great deal of interest in the structural, magnetic and transport properties of intermetallic compounds containing rare earths and actinides. Among the rare earths, the compounds containing cerium have attracted a great deal of attention. Cerium is the first element in the lanthanide series having a non zero 4f occupation. Therefore, the 4f shell is rather unstable in cerium and can lead to very interesting properties.
