Abstract

The recent fish fauna of Czechoslovakia includes eight species of six genera of the fish family Salmonidae, subfamilies Salmoninae, Thymallinae and Coregoninae. The review of particular salmonid species is given in Table 1 (Lusk, 1989). It is evident that the only autochthonous species are brown trout (Salmo trutta), Danube salmon or huchen (Hucho hucho), European grayling (Thymallus thymallus) and now extinct migratory forms of whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus oxyrhynchus) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). All other salmonids have been introduced.
