Regulation of a Membrane Tyrosine Phosphatase by Somatostatin

  • Chapter
Growth Factors, Peptides and Receptors

Abstract

Somatostatin is a negative regulator of various cellular functions including secretion and cell proliferation1. Somatostatin induces its biological effects by interacting with different receptors subtypes which have been shown to belong to family of G protein-linked receptors2 and are coupled to a variety of signal transduction pathways3 including adenylate cyclase, ionic conductance channels4 and protein dephosphorylation on serine/threonines5 and tyrosine residues6.
