Intraosseous Pressure, Gas Tension and Bone Blood Flow; in Normal and Pathological Situations: A Survey of Methods and Results

  • Chapter
Bone Circulation and Vascularization in Normal and Pathological Conditions

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 247))

Abstract

In situ monitoring of intraosseous parameters may give information about haemodynamic features, diffusion gradients and nutrition in the bone under normal and pathological conditions. Measurement of the intraosseous pressure (IOP) was first performed about 80 years ago and has ever since been a classical parameter in the evaluation of different bone and joint disorders.
