The problem of multilayer routing in MCMs can be decomposed into two subproblems: two-dimensional routing and layer assignment. This chapter discussed the first subproblem, which is sometimes referred to as global routing, planar routing or tree construction. Performance-driven tree construction algorithms using RC and RLC delay models were described. Clock skew minimization under RC delay models was also discussed.
