Finite-Precision Analysis of the Pipelined ADPCM Coder

Finite-precision analysis is always necessary before an IC implementation is done. In this chapter we present the roundoff analysis of the pipelined ADPCM coder studied in Chapter 3. Roundoff error analysis of the basic LMS has been presented in. There are, however, significant differences between the basic LMS predictor and the ADPCM. This is because, in addition to the adaptation feedback, the ADPCM has an inherently recursive structure. Additionally, it also contains a quantizer, which is a non-linear element. Therefore, it is important to analyze the roundoff error of the pipelined ADPCM (or PIPADPCM).
