Introduction to Nonlinear Guided Waves

  • Chapter
Advances in Integrated Optics

Abstract

The aim of these lectures is to discuss basic phenomena in planar waveguides in which some or even all of the constituent layers are fabricated from optical nonlinear materials. Nonlinear effects and nonlinear propagation in waveguides have been studied since the 1970s both theoretically and experimentally, and a number of review papers have detailed the various phenomena1-3.
