Crystal Matrix Protein: a Potent Inhibitory Component of Calcium Oxalate Crystals

Abstract

Nucleation of crystals is the critical initial step in stone formation; the aims of this study were (i) to analyse the protein content of calcium oxalate(CaOx) crystals freshly precipitated from human urine, and (ii) to ascertain whether their presence results from their acting as inhibitors or promoters.
