Abstract
Seizures, mental handicap and axial hypotonia are often the first symptoms of agenesis of the corpus callosum (CA). The clinical pattern varies according to the anatomical findings and aetiology. Indeed, there is a wide spectrum of brain malformations which involve CA. CA is by no means a clinical diagnosis on its own but its recognition is the first step towards a more precise aetiological diagnosis and prognosis. The clinical relevance of this concept grows as prenatal diagnosis of CA becomes more and more accurate. Prenatal diagnosis is presently often made by means of ultrasonography and it is a real challenge in these cases to determine the prognosis.
