Abstract

Before the 1920s clinical physicians, researchers, mathematicians, and statisticians had separate, somewhat segregated, spheres of work that were usually unrelated. These professionals did not ordinarily come together to attack problems, but between 1920 and 1950 a change gradually occurred.
