Abstract
Neuropsychological evaluation of a patient with a neurological disorder should include an assessment of the patient’s adjustment to the disorder. Measures of personality and emotional functioning may be helpful in this regard. Comprehensive, objective measures of personality such as the MMPI may be useful in providing an overall assessment. The Personality Assessment Inventory (Morey, 1991) appears to be a promising new comprehensive, objective assessment instrument; however, research with neurological patients is limited. Projective instruments such as the Rorschach (R), the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) (Murray, 1943), the Hand Test (HT) (Wagner, 1983), and the Draw-a-Person Test may be especially useful in evaluating the personality and emotional functioning of individuals with limited verbal abilities.
