Abstract
A series of small angle scattering measurements were performed to study the structure and the interactions of the asphaltene colloids in toluene/pyridine mixtures. In the dilute concentrations regime, the data were analyzed using a self-consistent algorithm, neglecting the interparticle interactions. The results suggest that the asphaltene colloids are approximately spherical, but with an appreciable size polydispersity. For the moderate to high concentration range, the Derjaguin-Landau-Verway-Overbeek (DLVO) potential was used to describe the interparticle interactions, and found to be adequate.
