Abstract
Organic polymers are similar to inorganic glasses in such way, that they are amorphous in most cases and that the glass state is their preferred state. That’s why some organic polymers are used like organic glasses for optical applications, and PMMA was produced directly under the term "organic glass" in the early thirties.1 The main advantages of organic glasses in comparison with inorganic glasses are their high impact strength and their low specific weight, for example in their use as lenses for spectacles. This paper describes the development of polymer with special refractive indexes and of polymers with special birefringent properties.
